After a devastating plague, introverted 17-year-old Dani Campbell and her family find themselves living in a very different America, one run by a cult-like leader, who forces children to move to "safety camps" designed to protect the human race. Encouraged to flee by her parents, Dani and her five-year-old brother seek refuge in the Black Hills of South Dakota. On the run with danger around every corner, Dani must fight to ensure their survival in this new world while trying to unmask the mystery of how it all came to be.
Tent City is a dystopia about a girl, her brother, and her friend who must flee home to escape being put into a government-run safety camp. So right in the beginning we have a girl, her brother, and friend setting off on a wild adventure while running from the evil government. They meet the mysterious Jack, who is the first part of our love triangle. Continuing on they eventually make it to Tent City, a city of rebels run by Bentley (the second part of the love triangle). While at Tent City there is all kinds of action and rarely a slow moment. It is really an interesting dystopia as most of the story takes place in the tent city near a mountain, so we’re sortof in an island most the book, just getting bits and snippets of the outside world.
I really enjoyed this book… it had dystopia, evil government, rebellion, love triangle, friendship, and characters put in peril. There is a lot of action (though it is a bit slow when you first come into tent city). There are plot twists, things you didn’t see coming, characters who have mysterious pasts, and more. And the end is quite the twist.
Overall this was a good read and I’m really looking forward to the sequel
