A startling discovery leads to a journey of self-discovery...and trouble for one boy growing up in rural Tennessee in 1909. A stirring coming-of-age story.

In the Find, Joel is a young man living on a farm. After a prank on his sister, his father punishes him for the summer by having him dig out manure. Eventually his father discovers a dinosaur buried in a field and enlists Joel and his brother’s help in digging it out.

This is a coming of age story about Joel, his dealings with his father and brother, and his fears. Ultimately it is a short novella but an interesting one in showing how a young man deals with “the find of a lifetime” and ultimately the disappointment when things don’t go as expected.

This is a book from one of my favorite authors (Lena Goldfinch) and well worth a quick read.
