Interview

Eden East is the last book in the Eden series. Can you give a hint about what we’ll find in the book?

Readers will get a lot of answers to the questions that have been building up in the first three books. All the major storylines will be wrapped up, with a few intentional things left open, but nothing that will leave readers too frustrated – hopefully. There’s more action, more drama, and more romance.

And when and where will it be available?

It will be available as of October 8th on Amazon.com, as well as Smashwords.com. Other sites, such as Barnes and Noble and Kobo, won’t be listed until a few weeks after the release. They take a bit longer.

How long did it take to write the book, and was it easier or harder to write than the previous ones?

It took me the longest to write this one, I think. Not because it was any harder in regards to the book itself, but more to do with the fact that I had so much going on with my other books, that finding the time to sit down and write it was a bit difficult. The only hard thing I found with this one was that I had to make sure I was wrapping up everything that needed to be, since it’s the series conclusion. There were a lot of things I needed to come to light, without it feeling like I was dumping a whole bunch of information on the readers all at once. So it took a while to figure out how the story would flow, but I think it came out just right in the end.

Can you talk about how you came up with the cover design and who did it?

Every time I would come up with the idea for the covers for this series, I made sure that it would have some sort of relevance to the area I was focusing on. The first was a grey background, like the grey walls that surround the Capital since that’s where it primarily took place, and the axes related to Aiden being trained. The second book was green because it took place in the fields where the Riders live. And South was black and gold with the sun, because it took place in the South, and black and gold are the colours of the uniforms the Sun soldiers wear. The last book I wanted the twin moons. Since it’s called Eden-East, we made the cover have the moons and a star, because that is what is on the flags of the Sand People when they enter the story in this book. I think all four covers go really well with each book, and as a series as a whole. My best friend, Marcio Sargento, designed all four covers. I’d give him the idea of what I wanted as the main focus on the covers, and the colours I was looking for, and then he’d go and find the actual images and make them look awesome. For South and East, he actually drew those images himself.

What’s next? Can you talk a little about the spin-off series, Elysium? And you’re probably working on the sequel to Switch as well, so how are you juggling all of this?

I’m actually working on the sequel to Switch now, so that’s sort of my main focus at this point. I’m only about a third of the way done with the writing part of it. Elysium will most likely be a project I start either later this year, or early next year. I’m really not sure what the release is going to look like for it, to be honest. Probably not until mid 2014. Elysium is another land that I introduced in book two of the Eden series, sort of just in passing. It’s mentioned a few other times throughout the series as well. The Elysium books will focus on the conflict happening in that land, and will probably only be a two part series. Then, eventually, I’ll have one last book that brings the two series together. I can’t say too much about it, because I haven’t started to write it, other than just inside my head. But I know it will be just as colourful and magical as Eden, so hopefully my readers will love it when it’s done.
